What is a Gateway Church?
A central part of our strategy for delivering the objectives of the Project is through the establishment of a network of ‘Gateway Churches’. Gateway churches provide visitors, tourists and pilgrims with the means by which they can:
- Access a wealth of fascinating information about the church, its history and its role within the local community.
- Find out information about other local churches, countryside walks, activities and community events.
- Seek spiritual refreshment and renewal
All gateway churches have the following features:
- They are open daily throughout the year
- They are located in areas that are popular with tourists and visitors
- They are located on main tourist routes. In some instances a nearby staithe offers excellent access from the Broads and main rivers
- They are places where a warm welcome is guaranteed and in some instances light refreshments/toilet facilities are available
